  Mac OS X Security Holes
Posted by Freaky on 19 May 2004 - 21:32

lixlpixel discovered a security hole in Mac OS X revolving around the URI handlers help and disk. Potentially a user could visit a website and have an AppleScript run. Same handler techniques were used with the disk handler to allow a user surfing the web to run into a malicious website that would either download a small disk image or mount it remotely and then execute from the mounted image a AppleScript that could run any command the user has permission to use.

Pepsi iTunes Winning Caps
Posted by Freaky on 19 Feb 2004 - 10:04

Who is more mad, Pepsi, the consumers who can't ever win or Apple? Posted on MacMerc is the secret to always finding the winning caps with the free iTunes song codes printed in them. No need to crack the code, or use the x-ray goggles, simply tilt the bottle at a 25 degree angle and view inside, if you see random numbers your a winner, if you see 'again' its short for 'try again'. The article has great pictures of the exploit in action.

Pirates ruling MacHalo
Posted by Freaky on 05 Feb 2004 - 21:23

MacGames write "MacSoft is reporting that more pirate copies are being used than legit copies of their game Mac Halo according to Pioneer Press. The warez scene for the Macintosh is spreading this file like no tomorrow, what would you expect when the forever awaited Halo comes to the Macintosh. More people need to purchase the game who can purchase it, right now IRC, HL, KDX and other methods of file transfers are ruling. MacSoft said hundreds of thousands of illegal copies of Mac Halo are being used, careful guys check to see what is calling home."

DoS Against SecurityServer Daemon In Mac OS X
Posted by Freaky on 12 Jan 2004 - 18:56

The advisory is titled 'Local Denial Of Service Attack Against The SecurityServer Daemon In Mac OS X, Mac OS X Server, And Darwin' and was released Dec 30th. What is in it is an explanation of what Security Server daemon does and how it effects the use of the operating system. Any user on the system can get SecurityServer daemon to crash causing other applications to crash and the system to be rendered unusable. Proof of concept code and advisory is shown if you read more. Remember Mac OS X is a multi-user, multi-threaded operating system this code could be run by a user sitting in front of the computer or someone with an account SSH'd in remotely.
